These days, my time is split between teaching “up and coming” accounting and tax professionals, creating systems and training materials for small businesses, maintaining client books, filing taxes, and coaching clients on tax savings strategies.  Tax and Accounting expert?  You bet!  And when it comes to small business books and taxes, I’ve done it all!

Professionally, I'm quite the achiever.  I hold a Virginia Certified Public Accountant license with over 20 years of experience (14 years of this time I’ve held an active CPA license.)  Over the years, I’ve assisted hundreds of business and individual clients, from start-ups through succession planning.  I hold multiple software certifications, including QuickBooks ProAdvisor, Xero Certified, Gusto Certified, and professional organization memberships with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants (VSCPA.)

I’m very “Plan”- Focused – and this began long before I ventured into self-employment.  I’ve worked hard to build a solid foundation for high level client service.  I earned a “nearly” perfect GPA when pursuing my Flute Performance and Recording Industry degree from Middle Tennessee State University.  The second time around, I received a perfect GPA when I graduated with my Master of Accountancy (M.Acc.) degree from East Tennessee State University.  Upon graduation, I sat for and aced the CPA exam in one sitting (yes really – a perfect score on the CPA exam!  One and done.)  I’m a total nerd (and proud of it!)

My earliest years out of graduate school started in Big 4 with PwC and Ernst & Young upon moving to regional accounting firms; however, in recent years, I have focused my career on serving small business / investor clients and education.

Having this wealth of experience is only part of the equation, I also strive to clearly speak and “teach my ways.”  I love empowering business owners and students with knowledge - teaching is where it’s at for me!  I frequently train small business owners with their accounting software – teaching how to keep their books up-to-date while also understanding what the numbers mean.  I design accounting and tax courses for “up and coming” professionals, teaching video and live lectures as an adjunct faculty member.  Even my most resistant students have had no choice but to learn something from me!  I incorporate multiple learning methods - engaging video lectures, real-world trainings, and easy to follow reference guides.

I live in Abingdon, Virginia with my husband Chris (a Virginia / Tennessee practicing attorney) and our 3 beautiful tax credits: Laura Lee, Julia Mae, and Noah James.  When I’m not in front of a camera and mic recording trainings or solving accounting puzzles on my laptop, you can find me venturing around the many historical locations in SWVA (we like history A LOT,) playing any flute I can get my hands on, and providing “taxi service” and lead educator roles for our children’s many adventures.

Industry Focus: Real Estate, Investments, Professional & Financial Services, Medical Services, Entertainment Industry, Restaurant, and Small Business.

Education: Master of Accountancy degree from East Tennessee State University; Bachelor of Science in Recording Industry & Flute Performance from Middle Tennessee State University.

Jim Duncan

Enrolled Agent, CMGA

Semi-retired tax and accounting veteran.  Jim has practiced in public accounting for over 40 years!  Aside from accounting and tax, Jim is a "technology guru" - designing accounting systems and networks long before remote access and cloud storage were mainstream.  He serves as experienced consultant on all things "small business" (aka we give him all the hardest questions!)

Alan Duncan

Accountant

Alan graduated from East Tennessee State University with a degree in Accounting.  Since graduation, he spends his time cleaning up books, reconciling accounts, prepping tax returns, and learning all the new/emerging accounting software and tools.

In his spare time, he spends time with his family - Tricia and "pup kid" Edie, and plays music.  He's quite the bass player!
